The local unit of low-cost carrier AirAsia will introduce to the Philippines its first units of Airbus A220 by 2028, according to a report by Philstar Biz.

The single-aisle aircraft, known for its powerful range and wider seating capacity compared to similar models, will bolster AirAsia's domestic and regional network. The airline expects the A220 to support its expansion strategy across the Philippines and nearby markets.

Industry analysts see the move as a step toward modernizing AirAsia's fleet with more fuel-efficient planes, potentially lowering operational costs and carbon emissions. The introduction of the A220 aligns with global trends among budget carriers transitioning from older narrow-body jets.
