Alternergy Holdings Corp. has started delivering electricity from its 128-megawatt (MW) Tanay wind farm to the Luzon grid, becoming the first project awarded under the second Green Energy Auction (GEA-2) in 2023 to supply power to the grid, the company announced on Thursday. The wind farm began supplying electricity after the energization of the facility, according to a statement from Alternergy reported by BusinessWorld.
The Tanay wind farm, located in Rizal province, is expected to generate approximately 300 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy annually, enough to power around 150,000 households. Alternergy said the project supports the government's goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the national power mix to 50% by 2040.
With the energization, Alternergy now has three operational wind farms with a combined capacity of 328 MW. The company is also developing other renewable energy projects, including solar and hydropower facilities, as part of its growth strategy.
