The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) announced on Thursday that it had filed criminal tax cases against five individuals and entities, with the case against dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Leal Guo carrying the largest alleged tax deficiency of over P1 billion, according to a report by BusinessWorld.
The five cases altogether involve an estimated total tax deficiency of more than P1 billion, with Guo’s case alone accounting for the bulk. The BIR did not provide further specifics on the nature of the alleged tax violations or the other defendants involved.
The filing comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Guo, who was dismissed as mayor and is also facing other legal issues. The BIR’s action marks the latest government move against tax evasion as it intensifies collection efforts.
