A coalition of civil society organizations, church leaders, sectoral groups and political parties on Wednesday questioned the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC)-led rally at the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City, saying public assemblies should not be used to influence legal proceedings involving elected officials, according to BusinessWorld

The rally was held in support of a senator facing a P75-million plunder lawsuit. The coalition argued that such demonstrations could be perceived as an attempt to pressure the judiciary or sway public opinion while the case is ongoing.

The INC has not issued a statement in response to the coalition's questions as of press time. The coalition emphasized the importance of respecting legal processes and the separation of powers in a democratic society.
