The Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Wednesday that it recommended a 30-day extension of the P50 per kilogram price ceiling on imported rice, as the original deadline is set to lapse on June 13. The recommendation was announced following a market inspection of Metro Manila public markets, including Guadalupe in Makati City, where inspectors found no violations, according to a report by BusinessWorld.

The price cap, which took effect last month, aims to stabilize rice prices for consumers amid rising global rice costs and potential supply constraints. The DA's recommendation to extend the measure indicates that the agency believes the cap remains necessary to protect buyers from sudden price spikes, especially as the country continues to monitor international rice market trends.

If approved by the inter-agency committee, the extension would keep imported rice at P50 per kilo for another month, providing continued relief to Filipino consumers. The DA has not yet announced whether the cap will be further adjusted or lifted after the proposed 30-day period.
