The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Monday opened the bidding for a P179.49-million contract to provide low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite internet connectivity for geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs), as reported by BusinessWorld.
In a bid notice, the DICT invited interested parties to submit proposals for the provision of internet access via LEO satellites for GIDAs. The project aims to address connectivity gaps in remote areas where traditional terrestrial networks are not feasible.
The initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to expand digital inclusion and bridge the digital divide. Successful implementation is expected to provide reliable internet access to underserved communities, enabling access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
