The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has partnered with major telecommunications providers to restore connectivity in Sarangani and other areas affected by recent earthquakes, according to YugaTech.
The initiative involves the deployment of free WiFi access points in evacuation centers and community hubs to ensure affected residents can communicate with loved ones and access critical information. Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, and other carriers have reportedly provided equipment and bandwidth to support the effort.
DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy emphasized the importance of digital connectivity during emergencies, stating that the free WiFi service will remain operational as long as needed. Local government units are assisting in maintaining the hotspots and ensuring equitable access for all evacuees.
