The Department of Energy (DoE) has suspended the country’s first offshore wind auction until further notice, according to a report by BusinessWorld. The suspension was announced in a notice signed by Energy Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella, addressed to qualified suppliers and renewable energy stakeholders.
The DoE cited logistical constraints, infrastructure readiness, and global supply chain risks as reasons for the delay. The notice specifically mentioned the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as contributing to uncertainties in equipment availability and project timelines.
The auction was intended to award contracts for offshore wind development in the Philippines, a key part of the government’s renewable energy expansion plans. No new date has been set, and stakeholders are awaiting further guidance from the DoE on the next steps.
