The Daily Tribune reports that the Department of Health (DoH) has stepped up its campaign against the growing use of vaping products among Filipino youth, describing the trend as a 'vapedemic'. Health officials emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of existing laws and regulations to curb the increasing accessibility and appeal of e-cigarettes to minors.
The DoH has called on local government units, schools, and parents to work together in implementing policies that restrict the sale and marketing of vaping devices near schools and other youth-centric areas. The department also highlighted the health risks associated with vaping, including nicotine addiction and respiratory issues, which have become more prevalent among adolescents.
As part of its crackdown, the DoH is pushing for stronger penalties against violators and more public awareness campaigns targeting both parents and young people. The agency reiterated that protecting the youth from the harmful effects of vaping remains a top priority, urging all sectors to support its anti-vaping initiatives.
