The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) confirmed it will recommend to Malacañang the lifting of the moratorium on registering Metro Manila economic zones (ecozones) with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), BusinessWorld reported.
The moratorium has been in place for several years as part of the government's effort to decentralize industrial growth and ease congestion in the capital region. Lifting it would allow new ecozone registrations in Metro Manila, potentially boosting investments and job creation in the area.
The recommendation is now pending approval from the Office of the President. If approved, PEZA will resume accepting applications for ecozone status within Metro Manila, which could benefit various industries including manufacturing, IT, and logistics.
