The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has lowered the retail electricity competition threshold from 500 kilowatts (kW) to 100 kW, according to a report by MSN.
This move is expected to expand the number of commercial and industrial customers eligible to choose their electricity supplier, fostering greater competition in the retail market. Larger establishments currently able to choose their supplier will now be joined by smaller businesses previously required to purchase from their local distribution utility.
The ERC stated that the reduction aims to lower power costs for consumers and encourage more participants in the retail electricity sector. Industry observers anticipate increased options for end-users as more suppliers enter the market.
