The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is preparing regulations that will govern electric vehicles (EVs) whose owners wish to offer excess energy to the grid, according to BusinessWorld. Sharon O. Montañer, ERC director of the Market Operations Service, said the regulator hopes to issue an EV framework this year that includes vehicle-to-grid (V2G) provisions.

The V2G scheme would allow EV owners to sell stored power back to the grid during peak demand, potentially lowering electricity costs and supporting grid stability. Pricing mechanisms are still being determined, Montañer said, as the ERC works to balance consumer benefits with utility interests.

The framework is part of broader government efforts to promote EV adoption and renewable energy integration in the Philippines. Industry stakeholders have expressed interest in V2G technology, though concerns remain about battery degradation and infrastructure requirements.
