Convicted former police officer Rafael P. Dumlao III was arrested in Quezon City on Tuesday in connection with his conviction over the 2016 kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, Interior Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla said, as reported by BusinessWorld.
Dumlao had been on the run since his 2019 acquittal was reversed by the Court of Appeals. He was originally convicted for his role in the abduction and murder of Jee, whose body was cremated at a funeral parlor in a case that drew widespread attention to police corruption in the Philippines.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that has been closely watched by the South Korean government and human rights groups. Authorities have not yet disclosed details on Dumlao's current whereabouts or legal proceedings following his capture.
