COTABATO CITY — Rampaging floods, spawned by recurring heavy rains since Wednesday afternoon, swept through more than 30 barangays in low-lying areas in the adjoining Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur provinces in the Bangsamoro region, BusinessWorld reported.

The affected areas are near the 220,000-hectare Ligawasan Delta, a catch basin for large rivers that originate from the surrounding highlands. The floods have displaced residents and damaged property, though specific casualty figures and damage estimates were not immediately available.

Local disaster response teams have been deployed to assist affected communities, and relief operations are underway. The Bangsamoro government has urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as the rainy season continues.
