A former lawmaker on Sunday slammed the recently passed Anti-Political Dynasty bill at the House of Representatives, calling it a “weak, bogus, and deceptive” bill that will only further entrench, instead of dismantling the power of political families in the country, as reported by BusinessWorld.

Former Party-list Rep. Carlos Isagani T. Zarate said that the bill is a “Trojan horse” that legalizes political dynasties rather than banning them. He argued that the measure’s provisions are so weak that they would allow existing political families to remain in power indefinitely.

The bill’s passage in the House has drawn sharp criticism from advocacy groups who say it betrays the anti-dynasty sentiment enshrined in the 1987 Constitution. Critics warn that without a genuine ban, political clans will continue to dominate local and national elections.
