Kmart has opened a new furniture store in Australia, offering products ranging from 75-cent candles to $300 sofas, according to a report by the Australian Financial Review (AFR). The store marks a strategic expansion into higher-margin home furnishings, leveraging Kmart’s existing supply chain and customer base.
The furniture store includes a curated selection of items designed to compete with both discount retailers and mid-market furniture brands. AFR noted that the move reflects a broader trend among discount retailers to diversify their product mix amid rising living costs.
While the store is currently only in Australia, Kmart’s parent company Wesfarmers has a strong presence in the Philippines through its local operations. The new concept could serve as a benchmark for future international expansion, including potential entry into the Philippine market.
