Globe Telecom, Inc. has partnered with Starlink to deploy satellite-to-mobile services in Mindanao, aiming to bolster emergency communications and disaster response in areas affected by the recent earthquake, according to BusinessWorld.
"This initial deployment will show how satellite-to-mobile technology can provide communications support and strengthen network resilience during these times," said Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Carl Raymond R. Cruz.
The partnership leverages Starlink's low-Earth orbit satellites to extend mobile connectivity without relying on terrestrial infrastructure, a critical capability in disaster-stricken regions where ground networks are damaged. Globe's deployment in Mindanao is part of broader efforts to enhance network redundancy and ensure communication continuity during emergencies.
