Globe Telecom, Inc. has commercially launched its satellite-to-mobile service using Starlink’s direct-to-cell technology, expanding mobile connectivity to areas without terrestrial network coverage, BusinessWorld reported.
The service enables compatible mobile devices to connect directly to Starlink’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites for text, voice, and data services in locations beyond the reach of traditional cell towers. Globe said the technology will help bridge connectivity gaps in remote and underserved areas across the Philippines.
This launch marks a significant step in Globe’s efforts to provide universal connectivity, leveraging satellite infrastructure to complement its existing terrestrial network. The service is initially available to postpaid and prepaid subscribers with compatible devices.
