The Department of Energy expects to name the private partner for the multibillion-peso rehabilitation of Mindanao’s aging Agus-Pulangi hydropower complex by December this year, according to a report by Philstar Biz.

The Agus-Pulangi hydropower complex, composed of several plants along the Agus River in Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte, has been operating for decades and requires major upgrades to restore its generating capacity. The rehabilitation is critical to ensuring stable power supply in Mindanao, which relies heavily on the complex for electricity.

The government has been pushing for the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme to fund the rehabilitation, aiming to attract private investment and expertise. The awarding of the contract in December would mark a key milestone in the project, which has faced delays in previous years.
