Singapore-based fintech startup HitPay has launched a WeChat Pay feature for retailers in the Philippines, according to a report by Google News. The new capability allows Philippine merchants to accept payments via WeChat Pay, a leading mobile wallet in China, expanding their reach to Chinese tourists and local users of the platform.
HitPay integrates WeChat Pay through its existing point-of-sale system, enabling seamless QR code transactions. Retailers can now cater to the growing number of Chinese visitors to the Philippines, who often prefer using WeChat Pay for purchases. The move also taps into the increasing adoption of mobile wallets among Filipino consumers.
The introduction comes as the Philippines sees a surge in digital payment adoption, driven by the pandemic and a push toward cashless transactions. HitPay competes with local payment gateways and international players, but WeChat Pay's wide user base gives it a distinct advantage in attracting Chinese shoppers. The feature is now available to HitPay's merchant partners across the country.
