The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) has awarded Verity, a Swiss robotics startup, the 2026 IERA Award for its autonomous flying warehouse robots. The system uses fleets of drones to autonomously scan and track inventory in high-bay warehouses, eliminating the need for manual counting or ground-based robots. The award, co-sponsored by IFR and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, recognizes innovations that transition from research to practical industrial application.

Verity’s drones continuously read barcodes and RFID tags while flying through storage racks, relaying real-time stock data to warehouse management systems. The company claims the solution reduces inventory cycle times by up to 80% and improves accuracy to near 100%. Unlike traditional automated guided vehicles, the drones navigate vertically and horizontally through narrow aisles without requiring floor space or infrastructure changes, making them suitable for retrofitting existing warehouses.

The IERA Award committee noted Verity’s proven deployments across logistics, automotive, and consumer goods industries. As e-commerce growth drives demand for faster fulfillment, autonomous inventory robots are gaining traction globally. The award highlights a shift toward mixed-use air and ground robotic systems in warehousing, with Verity’s platform already operating in over 100 facilities worldwide.
