The Philippines and Japan are set to review the Japan-Philippines Economic Partnership Agreement (JPEPA) this year, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said, citing signals from Tokyo. The report was published by BusinessWorld .

Marie Sherylyn D. Aquia, director IV at the DTI, said during President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s visit to Japan that Tokyo is ready to begin discussions on the review. The announcement marks a potential step forward in bilateral trade relations between the two nations.

The JPEPA, which entered into force in 2008, covers trade in goods, services, investment, and cooperation. A review could address tariff adjustments, market access, and rules of origin, among other issues.
