THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) said it concluded its technical assistance program for Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), boosting the rail line’s operational efficiency while cutting electricity costs, BusinessWorld reported.
The assistance aimed to improve operational efficiency, reduce electricity costs, and support greenhouse gas emission reductions. Specific measures implemented under the program included optimizing train operations and upgrading power systems to achieve energy savings.
The collaboration between JICA and LRMC underscores ongoing efforts to modernize the Philippines’ rail infrastructure. LRT-1 serves millions of commuters daily in Metro Manila, making operational improvements critical for both passenger experience and environmental sustainability.
