The Department of Transportation (DoTr) said it is hoping to launch the auction for the operations and maintenance (O&M) contract of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) next year, as reported by BusinessWorld.
DoTr officials stated that the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project remains the top priority, followed by the Philippine Automated Fare Collection System, before proceeding with the LRT-2 public-private partnership (PPP) auction. The timeline indicates that the LRT-2 O&M contract could be offered to private operators by 2025.
The LRT-2 line currently serves over 200,000 passengers daily across 11 stations from Recto to Antipolo. The O&M contract is expected to improve service efficiency and reduce government subsidies, following the PPP model used for other rail lines.
