Maharlika Investment Corp. (MIC) may serve as a vehicle for pooling investments for the Philippines’ participation in the Pax Silica initiative, although it does not expect to deploy its own capital, its president said in a report by BusinessWorld.

The state-run fund’s role would be to consolidate contributions from other sources rather than commit its own funds, according to MIC President. Pax Silica is a proposed international initiative focused on critical minerals and supply chain resilience, with the Philippines positioning itself as a potential hub. The pooling structure would allow the country to participate without straining MIC’s balance sheet.

Observers note that such a fund-pooling role could help the government attract private and multilateral capital for strategic projects. However, details on the mechanics, target size, and participating institutions have yet to be disclosed. The initiative remains subject to further government and partner negotiations.
