Retail price growth in the National Capital Region (NCR) accelerated in April, according to the latest data from BusinessWorld . The faster pace was attributed to higher prices of food and beverages, which outweighed slower increases in other commodity groups.
The General Retail Price Index (GRPI) in NCR rose by 3.5% year-on-year in April, up from 3.2% in March. Food and beverage prices climbed 4.5%, while non-food items saw a modest 2.1% increase. The acceleration reflects ongoing supply-side pressures and consumer demand recovery.
Analysts noted that the trend may persist in the coming months due to elevated global commodity costs and domestic logistics challenges. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will likely monitor the data closely for its monetary policy decisions.
