A new Filipino coffee shop, named Kapwa Coffee, is opening in Des Moines' East Village, as reported by Axios. The shop is owned by Filipino-American couple Maria and Jose Santos, who aim to bring a taste of Filipino coffee culture to the Midwest.

Kapwa Coffee will serve traditional Filipino coffee made from beans sourced from the Philippines, along with pastries such as ube ensaymada and pandesal. The owners say they want to create a community space that highlights Filipino hospitality and flavors.

The shop is expected to open in early 2025, pending final renovations. It will be located at 123 Main Street, adding to the growing diversity of food options in the East Village district.
