Production of palay (unmilled rice) in the second quarter rose 5.7% year on year, while corn output increased 0.8%, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) as reported by BusinessWorld.
The PSA reported that palay output reached 4.63 million metric tons (MMT), roughly level with its earlier estimate based on an evaluation of the standing crop. The harvest area for palay was 1.04 million hectares.
Corn production rose to an unspecified level, marking a modest gain amid favorable weather conditions. The PSA noted that both crops benefited from adequate rainfall and improved farm practices during the quarter.
