Palay (unmilled rice) production in the second quarter was estimated to have increased 5.7% year on year, while corn output fell 0.3%, based on an evaluation of standing crops by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), as reported by BusinessWorld.

As of June 1, the PSA estimated palay output for the second quarter at 4.63 million metric tons, reflecting the year-on-year growth. The assessment is based on the state of standing crops as of the reference date.

The decline in corn production, although marginal, contrasts with the positive trend in palay. The PSA updates its estimates as more data becomes available throughout the cropping season.
