The Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) on Monday urged the government to shift its focus from simply reopening schools to urgently addressing the country’s deepening learning crisis, as reported by BusinessWorld.

According to a statement, PBEd said reports about 87% of Grade 11 students struggling in reading should prompt immediate action, underscoring persistent learning gaps that continue to affect the education system.

The group emphasized that reopening classrooms alone is insufficient, and that targeted interventions for literacy and numeracy are critical to prevent long-term economic and social consequences.
