The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) and the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines Inc. (IEMOP) have signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen competition in the wholesale electricity spot market, as reported by Philstar Biz.
Under the partnership, the two agencies will share information and coordinate on market monitoring, investigation of potential anti-competitive conduct, and policy advocacy. The PCC will gain access to IEMOP's market data to detect abuses of market power, collusion, or other practices that distort electricity prices.
Officials from both sides said the agreement aims to ensure a level playing field for all market participants and protect consumers from unjust electricity rates. The collaboration is expected to enhance transparency and regulatory oversight in the Philippines' power sector, which has faced concerns over high prices and limited competition.
