QR Ph has emerged as the dominant digital payment method in the Philippines, accounting for 55% of total payment volume processed by YugaTech merchants in the first half of 2026, according to data from PayMongo. This marks a significant shift in consumer payment preferences, surpassing traditional payment options.
QR Ph, the national QR code standard launched by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in 2019, enables interoperable payments across participating banks and e-wallets. Its adoption has been driven by convenience, low transaction fees, and government support. PayMongo, a leading payment gateway in the country, reported that QR Ph transactions have grown steadily, reflecting broader digital payment adoption.
For merchants, the shift to QR Ph means lower processing costs compared to card payments and improved checkout experiences. Consumers benefit from seamless payments without needing to carry cash. As QR Ph continues to gain traction, it is expected to further accelerate the Philippines' transition to a cash-lite economy, particularly in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
