A joint report by S-RM and FGS Global, as covered by TechPinas, reveals that ransomware attacks in Asia-Pacific surged 59% in 2025, with East and Southeast Asia recording a 71% increase – the fastest rate globally.

The report, based on over 800 incidents handled by S-RM in 2025, highlights that cybercriminals are increasingly leveraging AI to accelerate attacks and create more personalized extortion tactics. AI adoption by businesses also introduces new vulnerabilities that attackers exploit.

Experts also warn that ransomware incidents now involve weaponizing data privacy regulations and media exposure to pressure organizations during negotiations. The findings underscore the need for businesses to strengthen cybersecurity measures amid the rapidly evolving threat landscape.
