The Department of Information and Communications Technology announced that at least 587 isolated communities and hospitals in Metro Manila will receive free internet access for one year. The project, detailed in a Philstar Biz report, aims to bridge the digital divide in remote areas and improve connectivity in healthcare facilities.
The initiative covers geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, including barangays in far-flung towns, as well as public hospitals in the National Capital Region. Beneficiaries will have free internet for a full year, with the DICT overseeing implementation and monitoring.
DICT officials emphasized the program's role in enabling telemedicine, remote education, and e-governance services in underserved communities. The project is part of the government's broader push to expand digital infrastructure and ensure equitable access to connectivity across the country.
