The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said it will comply with the court order suspending the P85 daily minimum wage hike in the National Capital Region, even as the agency’s chief expressed sadness over the development. According to a report by Philstar Biz, the labor secretary said the department respects the legal process and will await the court’s final ruling.
The halt order was issued after a petition questioned the wage increase, leaving workers in Metro Manila waiting for the implementation of the pay adjustment. The DOLE chief noted that the suspension is temporary and that the department remains committed to protecting the welfare of minimum wage earners.
The P85 wage hike was earlier approved for workers in the NCR, the first tranche of a series of regional wage adjustments. With the suspension in place, the DOLE will monitor developments and coordinate with the regional wage board to ensure compliance once the legal issues are resolved.
