San Miguel Corp. (SMC) announced that the first runway of the New Manila International Airport (NMIA) project in Bulacan remains on track for completion by 2028, as reported by BusinessWorld. However, some supporting facilities are expected to be finished later than initially planned.
The company said that despite the revised timeline for ancillary structures, the core runway construction is proceeding as scheduled. The NMIA, envisioned as a major gateway to decongest Ninoy Aquino International Airport, involves landfill and reclamation works in Bulacan province.
SMC officials reiterated their commitment to the project, which is expected to boost economic activity in Central Luzon. The first runway's completion by 2028 remains a key milestone for the airport's phased development.
