Sarao Motors Inc. is targeting to release fully electric jeepneys by the third or fourth quarter of 2026, operations supervisor Leonard John C. Sarao said on the sidelines of a Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute event, as reported by BusinessWorld.

The announcement comes amid the government's Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, which requires jeepneys to shift to more environmentally friendly options. Sarao noted that the company is working on developing electric models that comply with the program's standards.

The move marks a significant step for the iconic Filipino transport brand, which has been manufacturing jeepneys for decades. The shift to electric vehicles aligns with broader industry trends and regulatory pushes for cleaner public transport.
