Public schools nationwide have upgraded their on-site security and anti-bullying measures, following the rise of school-related violence, according to the Department of Education (DepEd), as reported by BusinessWorld.
“We are moving with urgency because protecting our children is our absolute priority,” Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” M. Angara said in a news release. “Our schools must strictly remain safe havens for learning.” The directive covers all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
DepEd did not specify the exact security upgrades but cited the need for stricter enforcement of existing anti-bullying policies and improved coordination with local law enforcement. The agency urged school administrators to conduct regular safety audits and reporting mechanisms to address incidents promptly.
