Majority lawmakers, led by Senate President Pro Tempore Sherwin T. Gatchalian, on Tuesday said they will donate one month’s worth of their salary to victims of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao, according to BusinessWorld.

In a joint statement, the senators said the donation would help cover the basic needs of the victims while damage assessment is ongoing. The initiative underscores the chamber’s solidarity with affected communities in the wake of the powerful earthquake that caused widespread destruction across several provinces.

The magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which struck Mindanao on June 7, triggered landslides and damaged infrastructure, leaving thousands displaced. The senators’ salary donation is part of the government’s broader response, with state agencies also conducting relief operations and assessments.
