The solar and storage industries are lobbying the government to provide them access to funding designated for the planned strategic energy reserve. According to a report by BusinessWorld, Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA) Chairman Theresa C. Capellan said the move would help fast-track the rollout of rooftop solar systems.
The strategic energy reserve is intended to bolster the country's power supply security, but the PSSEA argues that allocating a portion to distributed solar and storage could reduce transmission losses and improve grid resilience. The group emphasized that rooftop solar projects can be deployed faster than large-scale plants and would complement the reserve's goals.
No specific funding amount was disclosed, but the PSSEA is expected to submit a formal proposal to the Department of Energy. The government has yet to finalize the mechanics of the strategic energy reserve, which is part of the administration's energy security agenda.
