SunAsia Energy, Inc. is seeking to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Luzon with plans to develop P12.04 billion worth of floating solar power projects in Laguna, as reported by BusinessWorld. The company’s subsidiaries, NewAsia Power Energy II Corp. (NPE2C) and Nortesol II Inc. (N2I), are proposing to develop two floating photovoltaic (PV) power plants.
The two projects are expected to have a combined capacity of up to 200 megawatts, according to documents filed with the Department of Energy. NPE2C plans a 100-MW plant in Lumban, Laguna, while N2I proposes another 100-MW facility in the same area. The solar farms will be installed on Laguna Lake, utilizing floating technology to minimize land use.
If realized, the projects would contribute to the country’s renewable energy targets and help address power demand in Luzon. SunAsia previously developed the 150-MW Laguna Lake floating solar project, which is currently in the permitting stage. The company is also exploring other renewable energy ventures across the Philippines.
