As legislators and various groups continue discussions on calls to prohibit children below 16 years old from accessing social media, one of the country's major telecommunications firms reaffirmed its firm advocacy for a balanced approach to online child safety, Philstar Biz reported.
The telco argued that outright banning social media for minors could be counterproductive, pushing children toward unregulated spaces. Instead, it supports implementing robust age verification systems, digital literacy programs, and parental control tools to create a safer online environment.
The company emphasized that collaboration between government, tech platforms, and families is key to protecting children without restricting their access to the benefits of the internet.
