Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has welcomed efforts by the National Tobacco Administration (NTA) to match tobacco production with global demand, calling the regulator’s Strategic Tobacco Production Information Campaign (STRATPIC) crucial for the industry’s sustainability. In a statement reported by BusinessWorld, JTI said the campaign helps farmers avoid market crashes caused by oversupply.

The NTA’s STRATPIC initiative aims to align production volume with unpredictable global demand, preventing surplus that depresses prices. JTI noted that such planning is essential for the long-term viability of the tobacco sector, as it protects farmers from financial losses and ensures a stable supply chain.

The industry’s support underscores the importance of data-driven production planning in an export-dependent market. By coordinating with regulators, tobacco companies hope to foster a more predictable and profitable environment for growers.
