Typhoon Bavi (locally named Inday) prompted the raising of Storm Signal No. 2 over Batanes on Thursday, the state weather bureau BusinessWorld reported, as the typhoon enhances the southwest monsoon, bringing life-threatening winds and heavy rainfall to parts of Luzon.
PAGASA said areas under Signal No. 2 may experience significant damage to structures and vegetation, while Signal No. 1 was raised over other northern provinces. The enhanced southwest monsoon will bring scattered to widespread rains over the western portions of Luzon, including Metro Manila, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.
The typhoon was tracked moving northwestward, with the public advised to take necessary precautions. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators were warned against venturing out due to rough sea conditions.
