Uniqlo, the Japanese fast-fashion retailer, has set an ambitious goal to operate more than 100 stores in India by 2031. The company currently runs about a dozen stores in the country, primarily in the National Capital Region, and aims to tap into the growing demand for affordable, quality clothing among Indian consumers. This expansion aligns with Uniqlo's broader strategy of increasing its presence in emerging markets.

According to a report by Inside Retail Asia, Uniqlo's parent company, Fast Retailing, sees India as a key growth market despite challenges such as high import duties and intense competition from local and international brands. The retailer plans to open new stores in major cities and metropolitan areas, targeting both urban and suburban populations. Uniqlo's move reflects the increasing interest of global fashion brands in India's large and youthful consumer base.

Uniqlo's expansion in India is part of a larger push by Fast Retailing to grow its global store network, which includes over 2,400 stores worldwide. The company has been investing in marketing and supply chain improvements to strengthen its position in the Indian market. With the target of 100 stores by 2031, Uniqlo aims to replicate its success in other Asian markets where it has become a household name.
