Visa has expanded its open-loop, contactless fare payment system to the Manila Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2), allowing commuters to pay using Visa cards, QR codes, and NFC-enabled devices across all 13 stations, according to TechPinas. The rollout was done in partnership with RCBC, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and other stakeholders.

The initiative aims to make everyday train travel faster, safer, and more convenient, while also strengthening financial inclusion by giving more Filipinos and international visitors easier access to digital payments. It supports the development of a smart mobility ecosystem in Metro Manila.

This marks Visa's fourth cashless transit project in the Philippines, following successful deployments on MRT-3 and bus systems in Cebu, Mandaue, and Bacolod. The LRT-2, which began operations in 2004, continues to modernize its fare collection as part of the country's shift toward digital payments.
