Water concessionaires serving Metro Manila said they are ensuring they can tap water reserves ahead of the onset of El Niño, as low water levels at Angat Dam led to the reduction of the water allocation for the capital, according to BusinessWorld.
Maynilad Water Services, Inc. and Manila Water Co., Inc. told customers that they expect their supply to remain adequate despite the reduced allocation. Both firms have activated contingency measures, including the use of deep wells and water treatment plants to augment supply from Angat Dam.
The National Water Resources Board earlier slashed the water allocation for Metro Manila by 2 cubic meters per second to support the needs of the agricultural sector. The water firms assured the public that they have sufficient buffer capacity to meet demand during the dry season.
