A woman in Palm Beach County has been accused of using a barcode-swapping scheme to steal approximately $1,300 worth of merchandise from a Walmart store, according to reports.
The suspect allegedly replaced barcodes on higher-priced items with those from cheaper products, allowing them to pass through self-checkout at a reduced cost. The scheme, which exploits the reliance on barcode scanning for pricing, is a known method of retail theft.
