Renewable energy and battery energy storage systems will be critical to meeting the Philippines’ rising electricity demand from data centers as artificial intelligence (AI) adoption accelerates, according to an IBM Consulting executive. The executive made the remarks in a report by BusinessWorld.
The Philippines is seeing a surge in data center construction driven by growing cloud and AI workloads. These facilities require significant and stable power, often running 24/7. IBM Consulting stressed that integrating renewables like solar and wind, paired with battery storage, is essential to manage the intermittent nature of these sources and ensure reliable operations.
The call comes as the Philippine government promotes investments in the digital economy, with data centers becoming a key infrastructure priority. Without sufficient clean energy capacity, the country risks both power shortages and missing its climate goals, the IBM executive warned.
