Cybersecurity experts from S-RM and FGS Global warn that ransomware attacks across Asia-Pacific are accelerating rapidly, according to a report published by TechPinas. Drawing from over 800 global incidents handled by S-RM in 2025, the report reveals that more than 770 organisations in the region were named on ransomware leak sites last year, marking a 59% year-on-year increase, while East and Southeast Asia recorded a staggering 71% surge — the fastest growth rate globally.

While businesses continue embracing AI to improve efficiency, cybercriminals are leveraging the same technology to accelerate attacks, create more personalised extortion tactics, and exploit vulnerabilities introduced by AI-powered systems. The report highlights that AI adoption is expanding the attack surface, making it easier for attackers to automate reconnaissance and tailor their methods to specific targets.

Experts warn that ransomware incidents now go beyond technical disruption. Attackers are weaponising stricter data privacy regulations and media exposure to intensify pressure on organisations during negotiations and crisis response. The findings underscore the urgent need for businesses across Asia-Pacific to bolster cybersecurity measures as threats become more sophisticated and multi-dimensional.
